Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

All 80s and 90s babies remember the grade school years where we threw our gatorade bottles or bad artwork into the recycling bin by the door. While I’m sure the green effort rhetoric has changed in schools, it remains the same that we try to reduce waste. Time has only shown us over and over that our world is changing faster than predicted and not always for the best.
Fast fashion is a huge culprit of waste and one we have to own our part in. While for many of us the days of Wet Seal and Limited Too are over, we still have that desire for something “new” and something affordable. And for me, as a mom, I’ve realized just how quickly our society burns through clothing. Watching my kids grow, my firstborn in expensive trendy toddler clothing and all new furniture; and onto my second child with hand me downs and repainted dressers… The amount of clothing these growing babies can go through is astonishing! So when I look at my own closet, my own spending, and my own throw-aways, it starts to really and truly add up. Waste is a factor, but so is spending.
In recent years we’ve committed to finding more quality fashions and fabrics that’ll last through trends and waist size changes. We’ve tried to create a focus on quality over quantity and we’ve been proud of what we’ve brought to the Louisville market. Standing behind our lines and swapping out a product when something doesn’t meet our standards is something we are truly putting a focus on. But like so many small businesses in America right now, we are feeling the effects of inflation and tariffs wreaking havoc on our overseas partners. As a family of four, we are feeling in our budgets and weekly shopping. Add in a storefront that’s been the victim of construction for months on end, and we’ve hit a hard point. If we learned anything from covid, it taught us to pivot. Often times a word we no longer want to hear, pivot can be synonymous with moist, phlegm and other cringe words. But here we are doing that again, pivoting.
As we look at our values, our business, and our pocketbooks (am I an old lady for calling it that??) I have to wonder how we can be more sustainable while being affordable and trendy. So many friends are doing this through monthly wardrobe rentals. But I’ve seen the wear and tear some of those items come with and that my dollar doesn’t stay in my closet for long. For a splurge wear, I truly understand the appeal. However, for that day to day look, that consistent go-to item in your closet that makes you feel good… who’s to say that isn’t the item I bought years ago with a tag still on it in my closet? Or I wore it once and my boobs were too big and it has just sat in my closet for too long?
All that to finally get to the point of consignment. Six Sisters isn’t changing our focus of quality and affordable fashion. We will still have new arrivals daily from new brands with new product. And now in addition, we are offering a way to purchase trendy fashion that’s been gently used and at an affordable price. We want you to love what you find with us at Six Sisters. If it’s a new blouse for the first day back after maternity leave, or the dress for your cousin's wedding… Whatever you find, we can promise that new or “gently” used, we are committed to finding the products that will last you longer, provide the style and fit to make you feel your best, and continue to play dress up everyday!
I can’t wait to continue the amazing experience of Six Sisters, but with the added benefit of extra inventory and intentional spending. We hope we can make our dollar stretch with amazing fashion, new or consigned. Coming from a house with six daughters, sharing and wearing is the most natural thing in the world. So we invite you to shop the closet of the sisterhood with us at Second Hand Sisters by Six Sisters Boutique! Cheers!!
